Drew graduated from Florida School of Massage in 2009, followed by the Integrated Massage and Personal (IMAP) training program at GoPrimal Fitness and Training Institute. Since then, he has focused on assessing dysfunctional body mechanics and stability training to provide symptom relief and injury prevention. Drew is a Gainesville, FL native and has consistently worked with chiropractors, physical therapists, personal trainers, and other massage therapists in the Gainesville area.
Each session is tailored to your specific needs and concerns. Drew combines elements of orthopedic testing, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy to assess dysfunction and relieve pain. Client education and corrective exercise/stretching are often included so that you have the tools to take care of yourself at home and book sessions less frequently.
Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignments, past lingering injuries, repetitive motions, or even a lack of motion. This modality focuses largely on adhesions in the connective tissue, separating fibers in the fascia that have built up over time. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open and direct communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness can occur the day after the treatment, and that being intentional with your rest and hydration afterwards can directly affect your experience.
Myofascial Release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and create balance in unstable joints. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.
Trigger Point Therapy works directly with dense bundles of muscle fibers that have high levels of neural drive called trigger points. Trigger points can often be the source of a muscle spasm, much like the epicenter of an earthquake. Applying pressure to these points can disrupt the neural drive that keeps the muscle in spasm and relieve the tension and dysfunction. This can be a relaxing experience, but often trigger point therapy can create uncomfortable sensations in the moment before relief (heat, cold, swelling sensation, etc). Open and direct communication is critical for an effective session.
